AI has taken a groundbreaking step in a new direction: assisting cultural heritage conservation.

A multinational tech giant, Lenovo, deployed Daystar Bot GS, a six-legged robotic dog, to monitor and preserve the Pagoda of Fogong Temple in North China’s Shanxi Province.

The 1000-year-old, 221-foot-tall monument was built in 1056 during the Liao Dynasty. It is China’s oldest and tallest surviving wooden structure. Daystar, to begin, completed a detailed digital reconstruction of the pagoda’s ornate ceiling. Dive deeper into this Must-Read.

The Daystar Bot GS, powered by embodied intelligence, is set to support the long-term protection of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Lenovo’s Daystar Bot GS is built to perform reliably in unpredictable environments, boasting an advanced control system, cutting-edge perception algorithms, and IP66-rated protection.

Fitted with an intelligent 3D vision system, the six-legged robot can reconstruct millimeter-level heritage details without any physical contact. It can even make decisions in real-time. What can’t it do?

Believe it or not, ChatGPT caught a woman’s cancer.

Lauren Bannon had symptoms that doctors had dismissed, such as extreme stomach pain, which they attributed to acid reflux. Despite testing negative, doctors diagnosed her with rheumatoid arthritis after four months of visits. Desperate for answers, she consulted ChatGPT about conditions that mimic arthritis.

The chatbot suggested she might have Hashimoto’s disease and recommended that she ask her doctor to check her thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPO) levels.

The Grand Ring is a huge circular wooden walkway over a mile long that showcases innovative engineering and design.

It was constructed by Sou Fujimoto Architects for the ongoing Osaka Expo in Japan, and Guinness World Records recognized it as the planet’s largest wooden architectural structure this year.

Built from local Japanese cedar and cypress with some imported Scots pine, architects employed a traditional Japanese technique that evades the need for nails or screws.
