Two companies have collaborated to expand the product range of magnet-free electric motors to upper-segment applications.
Valeo and MAHLE will develop an innovative magnet-free electric axle system, targeting upper-segment electric vehicles with peak power ranging from 295 to 469 hp (220 kW to 350 kW).
Valeoâs technology is based on the successful joint development of magnet-free electric motor technology (EESMâExternally Excited Synchronous Motor) with a European OEM, according to the company. Dive deeper into this Must-Read.

The companies are introducing an inner Brushless Electrical Excitation (iBEE) system, a cutting-edge technology that they claim can revolutionize the performance and efficiency of magnet-free electric motors.
âThis cooperation with MAHLE is a perfect match. MAHLE develops the EESM rotor and their brushless excitation system,â said Xavier Dupont, Valeo Power Division CEO.
Dupont highlighted that Valeo provides dedicated control of this electric motor and brushless system embedded in the inverter.
Lyten, the supermaterial applications company and lithium-sulfur battery manufacturer, has announced a plan to invest over $1 billion to build the worldâs first lithium-sulfur battery gigafactory.
The facility is being planned to be established near Reno, Nevada in the United States.
Lyten has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Dermody Properties to locate the facility on land owned by the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority.
Researchers from UCLAâs Institute for Carbon Management (ICM) have developed a method to reduce carbon emissions in cement production drastically, a process that currently contributes around 8% of global CO2 emissions.
The researchers explain their novel âZeroCALâ process, which aims to eliminate up to 98% of the carbon emissions typically generated during cement production.
The process not only tackles the emissions caused by the thermochemical breakdown of limestone into lime but also proposes a clean, energy-efficient way to heat cement kilns.
