🇨🇳 China plans big tech move to rival Elon Musk's Neuralink by 2025
Plus: Your child's 'blah blah bloo?' AI model trains to understand it
Amid the buzz surrounding the first human to receive Musk's Neuralink brain chip implant, China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has unveiled big plans of its own. They're aiming to take brain-computer products to the next level by 2025.
In a detailed policy document, the MIIT laid out its commitment to making serious strides in various brain-computer technologies. Think user-friendly and secure brain-computer fusion, brain-like chips, and neural models for brain computing. These innovations are set to have applications in medical rehabilitation, autonomous driving, and virtual reality. Find out more about China’s plans by reading today’s Must Read.

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) is charging into the future, revealing plans for brain-computer products by 2025. This strategic move coincides with Neuralink's significant breakthroughs, as Elon Musk recently announced the successful implantation of their first brain device in a human patient. The green light from the FDA in May 2023 paved the way for these human trials.
China, renowned for its rapid tech innovations, is not one to be left behind. They've been diving headfirst into the realm of brain-computer interface devices, giving Neuralink a run for its money. Back in 2019, Tianjin University and the state-owned China Electronics Corporation unveiled the "Brain Talker" chip, setting the stage for cutting-edge brain-computer interfaces. A tech dual much?
A research team in South Korea may have just crafted the world's most efficient solar cells using quantum dots (QDs). As nanocrystals, ranging from a few to tens of nanometers, QDs grant precise control over the solar cell's photoelectric properties for enhanced stability. The manufacturing process involves a simple spray technique, paving the way for efficient and streamlined production.
Large language models like OpenAI's GPT, the powerhouse behind ChatGPT, excel at conversing with adults. However, picture a child saying 'blah blah bloo,' only for ChatGPT to respond with, 'It seems like you entered a random or nonsensical phrase.' Not exactly helpful. To bridge this gap, NYU researchers recorded a toddler's interactions, creating an AI model to learn from the child's everyday words and ideas.
Question of the dayWhich aspect of AI learning from toddlers' daily interactions interests you the most? |
