The race for high-speed space-based internet is heating up. Recently, China achieved a major milestone, which puts it ahead of Elon Musk’s Starlink.
China successfully transmitted data at the speed of 100 gigabits per second using satellite-to-ground laser communication.
Chang Guang Satellite Technology, the company behind the Jilin-1 constellation, accomplished this feat. This unprecedented speed — ten times faster than their previous record — opens doors to a new era of high-speed connectivity. Let's take a closer look at this Must Read.

Data was exchanged between a truck-based, mobile ground station and a single satellite within the 117-satellite Jilin constellation orbiting Earth.
This latest achievement of 100 Gbps transmission rate is said to be equivalent to transmitting ten full-length movies within a “single second.”
Interestingly, this advancement gives Chang Guang Satellite a lead over Starlink. Wang Hanghang, the head of laser communication ground station technology at the Chinese company, claims that Musk's Starlink has demonstrated laser communication between satellites. However, they have not yet implemented laser communication directly between satellites and ground stations.

Researchers have discovered the UK’s biggest-ever dinosaur trackway site in a quarry in Oxfordshire.
They found nearly 200 huge footprints, which date back to around 166 million years ago. The discovery was made by researchers from the Universities of Oxford and Birmingham.
The trackways form part of a huge ‘dinosaur highway’ and include footprints from the ferocious 9-meter predator Megalosaurus and herbivorous dinosaurs up to twice that size.

A new type of miniature missile developed by an Estonia-based company is set to be tested in Ukraine this month.
Frankenburg Technologies’ Mark 1 anti-aircraft missile can counter low-flying drones. The latest test is set to be conducted at an unspecified location in Ukraine.
The weapon is expected to benefit Kyiv as Russia has been increasingly using its drone attacks against Ukraine. The AI-powered air defense missiles can reportedly engage targets at altitudes up to 1.25 miles (2 kms).
