The Biden administration has announced a ban on Kaspersky antivirus products in the United States, citing national security concerns.
This decision follows a detailed investigation that concluded that Kaspersky’s operations in the US posed a national security risk due to the Russian government’s offensive cyber capabilities and potential to influence or direct Kaspersky’s operations.
The ban is particularly noteworthy given Kaspersky’s clientele, which includes critical infrastructure providers and government entities. For more on this development, check out today’s Must-Reads.

🛡️ US: Joe Biden bans Kaspersky antivirus over security concerns from Russia
Kaspersky vehemently denies any wrongdoing and asserts that its activities do not pose a threat to US national security. Additionally, the company has indicated its intention to explore legal operations to continue its operations in the country.
While Kaspersky is no stranger to bans in the US, it is the first time the company is facing a nationwide ban and finding itself on a trade restriction list, which could significantly impact its global reputation and sales.
Despite the ban, current users are not legally required to stop using Kaspersky products immediately. However, the US Department of Commerce is strongly encouraging users to switch to new vendors.
🔋 New breakthrough EV battery goes 1 million miles, handles -22°F to 149°F
China’s Farasis Energy has unveiled a revolutionary electric vehicle battery with an impressive range of one million miles and exceptional temperature tolerances.
The battery showcased at the ASEAN Automotive Supply Chain Conference is designed for high performance, safety, and adaptability. Farasis promises a long cycle life and suggests the battery’s suitability in applications beyond typical passenger vehicles, including eVTOL aircraft.
Farasis Energy has been a significant player in battery technology for 27 years and is the first power battery enterprise in China’s electric two-wheeler market. Additionally, the company holds the largest market share in the global high-performance lithium battery market for electric motorcycles.
🫀 ‘Space hairdryer’ uses shockwaves to regenerate heart cells post-surgery
Researchers at the University Clinic for Cardiac Surgery in Innsbruck, Austria, have developed a novel shockwave device that improves heart function post-bypass surgery.
Dubbed the “space hairdryer,” this device combines traditional bypass surgery with shockwave therapy to regenerate heart tissue and enhance the heart’s pumping ability.
Initial trials in Austria revealed promising results, with patients experiencing an 11.3% boost in their heart’s pumping function within a year. The research team is aiming to gain approval from European regulators by the end of the year and make their innovation widely available by 2025.
