The All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) announced on October 9 that its new AI platform for calling the shots will be adopted at The Wimbledon Championships from 2025.

AELTC said the officiating technology—Live Electronic Line Calling (Live ELC)—will be in place for all Championships and Qualifying match courts and cover the ‘out’ and ‘fault’ calls that human line umpires have previously made. Dive deeper into this Must-Read.

“The decision to introduce Live Electronic Line Calling at The Championships was made following a significant period of consideration and consultation,” Sally Bolton, Chief Executive of the All England Club, commented.

⛽️ US scientists turn waste streams into jet fuel that reduces carbon emissions by up to 70%

Scientists in the United States have developed a new method that uses methane-assisted anaerobic digestion (MAAD) technology to convert high-strength organic wastewater into volatile fatty acids, which can be upgraded to sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

Scientists at the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Argonne National Laboratory claimed that the cost-competitive SAF could reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) in the aviation industry by up to 70%.

Argonne laboratory’s life cycle and techno-economic models were used to analyze environmental impacts and economic viability of the SAF, according to researchers.

🚀 Spain’s SpaceX? Europe to challenge Elon Musk with new reusable rockets, crew capsule

Spain’s PLD Space, the first private company to successfully launch a suborbital rocket from mainland Europe, has announced its ambitious plans for the future.

Those plans, announced at its annual BEYOND event in Elche, Spain, take a heavy dose of inspiration from SpaceX.

The company’s new line of rockets is clearly inspired by Elon Musk’s private space company. What’s more, PLD Space has revealed its own commercial crew capsule program. The Spanish firm has its sights set on the Moon with LINCE.
